Hi, I’m Joan.

TEFL-certified. Six years in a shared-services team.

Before I taught full time I spent six years in an office in Manila. What I remember is not the work but the commute — ninety minutes each way, survived entirely on podcasts, including one that was only ever about deep-sea creatures. I teach from home now, which gives me three hours back and makes me a considerably nicer person.

On my last day a colleague told me the most frightening thing I said in meetings was “let’s go back to that earlier point.” I have chosen to take it as a compliment.
